Networks

Networks are ways for different computers and their users to interact. There are client/server networks, peer-to-peer networks and wide-area networks. Networks use nodes to communicate with each other and keep hackers away. Client/Server networks use a main computer to run large programs faster the desktop or the like. Some servers are highly specialized for managing files, printing, or even micro-processing to perform all computer functions. Peer-to-peer networks use no central server. All computers in the network help the others.  Wide-Area networks or WANs are used when servers are located in several different places to connect. WANs use a virtual network with heavy encryption to keep information private. Data moves from one node to another. There are three ways of doing this. Bus topology uses one cable that connects from one node to the next. Token ring exists when the nodes are connected in a ring of cables. The nodes uses tokens to bring information to the right place in the cable. Star topology is most common. In this method, several nodes are linked to the network in a variety of ways. Information is brought to a hub and then distributed to the correct location or address.
The use of networks is important in the business environment  for many reasons. Using a server to house a large program or application is necessary with business needs that are too great for a desktop computer to handle. Peer-to-peer networks increase efficiency and continuity throughout a business. Wide-Area networks are useful when companies utilize more than one building and more than one server.
Here is a website that will help one further understand the ins and outs of networking. Remember to ask key questions so the right network is utilized in the business environment. The following link will elaborate on how to choose the best network. http://media.ft.com/cms/d1c8689a-d933-11db-9b4a-000b5df10621.pdf
